Richland Two High Schools Give Back for the Holidays
Each school has its own service project
Students across Richland Two are giving back this holiday season, as each district high school has planned events to address community needs.
At Spring Valley High, students began their Winter Days service project before Thanksgiving. While student clubs like Spring Valley's Call to Action group organize projects through the year, Winter Days is a school-wide effort to help 100 foster children in need. Students hope to collect $5,000 for Children's Garden along with canned goods, backpacks, blankets and books.
Spring Valley will host a pep rally at 9 a.m. Dec. 9 to celebrate the students' efforts.
Ridge View High School's service effort focused on collecting 17,000 non-perishable food items for God's Storehouse. Ridge View's efforts allowed 80 children from the Department of Social Service to receive gifts and students also held a soup kitchen style dinner in hopes of raising $1,800 for Harvest Hope Food Bank.
Blythewood High is partnering with the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and hopes to collect 2,500 books for the hospital's "Reach Out and Read" program. Students are also collecting canned goods for God's Storehouse and stuffing 250 stockings to benefit the James R. Clark Sickle Cell Foundation.
And at Richland Northeast, students are participating in the H.O.P.E. 365 program. H.O.P.E., which stands for Helping Other People Everywhere, aims to collect coats, hygenie items and food for the homeless. Students at Richland Northeast are also adopting more than 180 individuals for the Palmetto Project's Families Helping Families program.
Richland Northeast will host its pep rally at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 2, while Blythewood will host a rally at 9 a.m. Friday Dec. 9 and Ridge View will host its celebration at 9 a.m. on Friday Dec. 14.
